Sudrland

Region

Region: Sudrland

Like Kataness to it's east, Sudrland is a barren windswept area covered by moorland and peat bogs

Settlements

Skarsferry

On the north coast of Caledonia at the mouth of the River Broom, Skarsferry takes it's name from the ferry which carries goods between the mainland of Caledonia and the isles of Orkneyjar. A somewhat sprawling and untidy port it is heavily defended against attacks from the sea, but has little in the way of land based defence. It is currently home to the Clan MacBeth.

Medium City

Bucholie

A rather inhospitable town nestled between the Grampian Mountains and Cnoc an Laith-Bhead, it is a place one generally visits out of necessity rather than choice. It is fairly well defended, and is generally used as a bolthole by people when there is trouble in the area.

Large Town

Dun Robin

Dun Robin is very much a border outpost on the edge of Cnoc an Laith-Bhaid. Although not a major or very busy city, it has great strategic importance, acting as a buffer between the hostile lands to the north and the more civilised lands further south.

Small City

Wrathness

A relatively heavily fortified city on the north coast, Wrathness is a military town with very little in the way of a port despite it's coastal location. There are virtually no harbour facilities, and the only boats belong to a few local fishermen.

Small City

Assynt

Assynt is the only notable settlement in a rather barren area. It has little in the way of defences, other than a few ancient earthworks, as it simply isn't worth attacking.

Circles

11. Circle on the Spey

Location: Near Barothness, Eastern Caledonia

Lay of the Land: The land is fairly flat in a wide river valley, with the river to the South.

Description: Close to the first bridge across the River Spey, the circle of stones has a short corridor of small stones leading off to the North. No Guardhouse.

18. Skarsferry Circle

Location: 15 miles south east of Skarsferry, North Eastern Caledonia

Lay of the Land: Located in a raised area within a peat bog. To the South and North West lie the lochs with the Cairngorm Mountains beyond.

Description: The circle is an integral part of a large fortified stone building, complete with guardhouse. A sizeable guard of unliving and other creatures is ever on guard here and the road to Skarsferry itself is lined with watch and signal towers.

Marked by a simple ring of stones on the ground, it is thought that this circle was used by the picts until recent times.

It is strongly advised that visitors make the local inhabitants aware of their intent to travel before making use of this circle.

Subsidiary Circle

Grampian Mountains

Only recently discovered in the hills near Bucholie lies a small derelict circle. How long it has been there for, or when it was active no one seems to know, the only indication that the site is not normal is a small patch of rocky grass amongst the heather,
