One of the most historical and heavily populated regions, Aver Ghaidheal consists of the north west of the Caledonian mainland around the city of Morven and the inner isles.

Morven

On the western coast of Caledonia, Morven is a large, ancient and heavily fortified city surrounded by a massive wall. Morven acts as a centre for commerce and trade for Western Caledonia and the isles. During the Formorian invasion of 1099-1100 Morven was bypassed by the invaders, but largely cut off from the rest of Caledonia for some months.

Nuada's Field (-50 AF)

Situated on the uninhabited island of Muile, this is the site of the first great battle with the Formorians where Nuada of the Silver Hand drove the Formorians into the sea. The site is soaked in Formorian blood, giving it great anti-magical properties.Nuada's field is the site of the first great battle with the Formorians where Nuada of the Silver Hand drove the Formorians into the sea. The land was soaked with Formorian blood to such an extent that magic does not work properly, and the ritual circle there was destroyed during the battle.

Well of Knowledge

Nestled between Loch Awe and the Great Forest lies the Well of Knowledge. A well without bottom it is said that drinking from the waters will give glimpses of the future. It is said that the gift of foresight is a double-edged sword that can also lead to insanity and death.

Tower of Eber Finn

An old tower on the Isle of Bute, close to the ritual circle there. In recent years Callum McLoony, the former Orange Mage, has inhabited it.

The Great Forest

Covering much of western Caledonia, the Great Forest is a dark and foreboding place. Details of the outer edges are fairly well known, but the great interior is very much a mystery with entry or egress proving virtually impossible.

9. Circle of Awe

Location: Five leagues South of town of Morven, Western Caledonia

Lay of the Land: The area around is hilly with the circle located on a hill. The Isle of Bute circle is visible in good weather across the water.

Description: On a hilltop. Tall standing stones with gap facing the Isle of Bute. Guardhouse located at bottom of hill.
